WINE 101 WITH UNCORKED ACCESS | VIRTUAL MASTERCLASS
Two Options for this opportunity!
Saturday, June 24, 2023
3:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Full Access to ASL Users !
Sponsored by The Oenophile Institute
Wine tastings are common practice for both industry professionals and enthusiasts alike, but what if you don't speak the lingo (literally)? Uncorked Access recognizes the significance of this procedure and for years, native ASL users have experienced barriers to engaging in tasting groups and events due to differences in language modality.
Peter & Laura of Uncorked Access will guide a virtual Wine 101 tasting to learn the basics of wine, how to feel confident seeking wine out, and expanding on signs that conceptually match the specific jargon of wine for the Deaf and signing Community.
This class is intended for fluent ASL users, and will be presented entirely in American Sign Language without interpreters.
This Masterclass with Uncorked Access is NOW offered for 0.3 CEUS at the little/some context Knowledge level. The Continuing Education Action is approved by Interpretek, RID sponsor.
There are TWO options for this masterclass !

Access and Opportunity for the Deaf Wine Community
April 2023
“While the wine industry has experienced a reckoning of sorts over the past few years regarding diversity and gender equality, I very rarely saw conversations about inclusion touch on accessibility for the Deaf and/or disabled communities,” Laura said. “Diversity is intersectional, and it must include accessibility.”
Laura Brown Understein of Uncorked Access and Michelle Morris ,Communications Director for the National Deaf Center and salesperson for DCanter, boutique in Washington, DC., discussed about opportunities and challenges within Deaf wine industry.

Deaf Wine Professionals Gathering
December 2022
Uncorked Access hosted first virtual gathering of Deaf Wine professionals! We talk a lot about the potential for Deaf employment and leadership in the wine industry, but it’s important to note that it’s already here…
Brilliant Deaf minds are already in this industry, lending their skills, perspectives, knowledge, support. All have experienced the “only Deaf in the room” journey. They are David Uzzell, formerly of Mozzeria, Michelle Morris of DCanter Wine Boutique, Michael Hellman of Vino Polish, Tara Beltrami of Casa Larga Vineyards, and Anne Kearney Logan, Phd in Viticulture & Enology at Cornell University.
We know that our network of d/Deaf wine and hospitality professionals is going to grow by leaps and bounds in 2023, and we can’t wait to do more of this!
